A Winfield man received moderate injuries when he was struck by a train.
Authorities say the accident happened at 10:30 Sunday morning along Highway 79 just north of Highway 47 in Winfield.
Sixty-four-year-old Paul Smith was walking along the tracks and was struck by a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train. The conductor told authorities he had activated a bell, whistle and a horn to warn Smith of the train’s approach.
Smith was taken by ambulance to Saint Joseph Health Care Center East in Saint Charles.
