The northbound passing lane on US 61 at the Cuivre River Bridge is closed and will remain closed for about one week for structural repairs. The lane was closed immediately when MoDOT inspectors discovered a crack in support material on the 30-year-old bridge. "The bridge is safe, and there are no weight limits, but we need to repair the piece immediately," said MoDOT Assistance District Engineer Dave Silvester. "The work to repair the bridge won't take very long, but we have to wait on the new pieces to be made," he added.
This section of US 61 carries an average of about 10,000 cars per day, and while traffic will not necessarily be inhibited by the closure, there will be a reduced speed limit.
MoDOT will keep area motorists apprised of the repairs.
