Two Boil Orders Issued, One extension

The Public Water Supply Dist. #1 of Pike County has issued a 48 hour boil order notice for the area on Highway UU, from Pike County Road 9115 to Highway 54, then West along 54 to Noix Creek.  This includes all gravel roads in the area that are serviced by the water district.  Boil order will expire Thursday, February 9th around 4:00 p.m.

The Public Water Supply Dist. has also issued a 48 hour boil order for the following area:  From and including Pike County Road 274, also known as Hickory Grove Road, along Route NN, to Louisiana.  This includes Pike County Roads 251 and 252.  Boil order will expire February 9th at 12:00 p.m.

Boil Order Extension

The boil order notification from the Public Water Supply Dist. #1 of Pike County is extended, once again, to Saturday, February 4th, around noon. 

Pike County Fair Association Holding Consignment Auction

Have surplus equipment or items you want to sell?  The Pike County Fair Association is holding a consignment auction on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Pike County Fairgrounds.  The auction will start at 10 am. This will be an outside auction only – no indoor space will be available. 

 To be listed on the sale bill, items must be consigned by February 27, 2012.  Items must be delivered and checked in Wednesday thru Friday March 14-16 between the hours of 1 pm and 7 pm.

Your name, phone number, address and description of the item will be needed. A consignment agreement, which includes details about commission rates, is available for review at www.pikecountyfair.org/auction.html.

 This will be an absolute sale and commission will be collected on all items. Proceeds will benefit the Pike County Fair.

CWD Found in Two Free-Ranging Deer

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) received two positive test results for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) from 1,077 tissue samples taken from free-ranging deer harvested by hunters in north-central Missouri during the 2011 fall firearms deer season. Both positive test results were from adult bucks harvested by Missouri hunters in Macon County, and are the first CWD-positive results for free-ranging deer in Missouri.

 

MDC plans to obtain more tissue samples for CWD testing by harvesting additional deer in the immediate area where the two infected deer were harvested.

Area Boy Fights Brain Tumor

Zac Schuler, 10 year old son of Twila and Jerry Schuler of Bowling Green, is fighting for his life.  He was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in early December and surgery was scheduled.  Before the scheduled surgery date, he suffered a brain hemorrhage and had to have emergency surgery to remove the tumor. 

After an extremely lengthy surgery, Zac emerged with 80% less of that tumor as well as a section of his skull taken out to leave room for the swelling.  He has proven himself a true warrior by just surviving the surgery.  Doctors were not optimistic, but Zac has shown them he has the strength to endure much more.  After six weeks, they did another MRI of his head and couldn’t find what was left of this malignant brain tumor.  However, there are still cancerous cells and therefore doctors say he has stage 4 brain cancer.
